  1. First and foremost, visit the <\/span>Media Library<\/b> and note down the names of the files you wish to rename.

  2. Now switch to <\/span>Plugins<\/b> -> <\/span>Add New<\/b> to install new plugins directly from the <\/span>WordPress<\/b> plugin repository.

  3. Search for the plugin named <\/span>Better Search Replace<\/b>.

If the media file is attached to any post, <\/span>WordPress<\/b> will show up the total number of instances it has been attached to the post(s). If everything is in the right order, uncheck <\/span>Dry Run<\/b> and click <\/span>Run Search\/Replace<\/b> to make the changes permanent in the database.

  9. Now access the file system via any <\/span>FTP Client<\/b>. <\/span>MobaXterm<\/b> is one such good example which is very helpful. Enter in the <\/span>FTP<\/b> login credentials to gain access to the file server.<\/span><\/li>\n
  10. Navigate to <\/span>wp-content<\/b> -> <\/span>uploads<\/b> -> <\/span><year in which the media file was uploaded><\/b> -> <\/span><month in which the media file was uploaded><\/b>.

  11. Locate the image\/media file and rename it with the same name you used in the <\/span>Replace with<\/b> textbox in step # 7.

  13. If there are a large number of images, it\u2019s better to generate a thumbnail of the respective media file only. In this case, navigate to <\/span>Media<\/b> -> <\/span>Library<\/b>, and locate the renamed media file. Now locate the <\/span>Regenerate Thumbnails<\/b> link and click it to regenerate a thumbnail of this particular media file only.
