The manuals contain very little or no information about dealing with such performance issues. In this article, we will be explaining various simple yet highly effective methods ranging from tinkering with startup items to optimizing the machine for best performance. Use Minimal Set of Startups<\/b><\/h2>\n

A Longer startup list makes your computer become painfully slow. Using the <\/span>System Configuration<\/b> tool in <\/span>Windows<\/b>, change the way your computer boots up.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Type <\/span>TaskMgr <\/b>in the <\/span>Search<\/b> Box, and open it from the <\/span>Search Results<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n

  3. Use the <\/span>Startup<\/b> tab to organize the startup items.<\/span><\/li>\n

    Uninstall Space Consuming Apps<\/b><\/h2>\n

    Review the list of installed applications and look for programs that occupy larger disk space. Uninstall any unnecessary applications with larger disk usage.<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Open the <\/span>Settings <\/b>page<\/span> from the <\/span>Start Screen<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Click <\/span>System <\/b>> <\/span>Apps & Features<\/b> tab.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Sort the apps list by size. Select <\/span>Sort by size <\/b>option from the drop down box.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. The apps will be listed in the descending order of disk usage. Uninstall the ones you don\u2019t need.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Upgrade BIOS Firmware<\/b><\/h2>\n

      An update of your <\/span>BIOS Firmware<\/b> can sort out this issue. Before you install the upgrade, make sure you close all other programs including your Antivirus and review the support documentation, in case something goes wrong during the installation stage.<\/span><\/p>\n

      For Dell users:<\/b><\/h3>\n

      1. Go to the <\/span>Dell Drivers & Downloads<\/b> page<\/span> here<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Do you know your <\/span>Service Tag <\/b>or<\/span> Express Service Code<\/b>? If yes, enter it and click <\/span>Submit<\/b>. Else click <\/span>Detect Product <\/b>button and download their utility software that automatically detects it.<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Download the <\/span>BIOS Firmware Update<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Turn Off PCIe Gen3 Feature<\/b><\/h2>\n

        PCIe Gen3<\/b> feature adversely affects your computer performance. Disable it using the <\/span>BIOS Setup<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

        1. Restart your computer and go to the <\/span>BIOS Setup<\/b>. (Press <\/span>F2<\/b> repeatedly)<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Once the Alienware company logo is displayed, use the keyboard arrow keys to highlight the <\/span>Advanced <\/b>menu, and press <\/span>Enter<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Move down to <\/span>PCIe Gen 3<\/b> setting and press <\/span>Enter<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Select <\/span>Disable <\/b>option, press <\/span>Enter<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. Go to the <\/span>Exit <\/b>menu > <\/span>Save changes and exit<\/b>. Alienware computer will automatically restart.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          Use the Pre-Boot System Diagnostic<\/b><\/h2>\n

          Alienware computers contain a pre-boot system diagnostic utility that scans for hardware problems and possible system issues. Based on the diagnostic findings you\u2019ll be able to determine whether any hardware needs to be replaced or there is any issue with a particular software.<\/span><\/p>\n

          1. Reboot your PC and then press <\/span>F2 <\/b>key until Alienware logo appears.<\/span><\/li>\n
          2. Select the <\/span>Diagnostics <\/b>option and press <\/span>Enter<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
          3. The tests will begin automatically. Be patient and let the all the tests finish by themselves.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            Update Graphics Card<\/b><\/h2>\n

            When you\u2019re running an outdated graphics driver, the games and programs run much slower. A video card update will likely give a much needed boost to your system performance.<\/span><\/p>\n
