Enable the VSync<\/b><\/h2>\n

TorchLight 2<\/b> freezing and stuttering issues occur when the frame rates fall below <\/span>VSync<\/b> recommended frame rate cap. As <\/span>Vertical Synchronization <\/b>(<\/span>VSync<\/b>), which is responsible for synchronizing <\/span>Frames Per Second<\/b> with your computer\u2019s monitor refresh rate, is already disabled, your computer will fail to prevent further dipping of frames rate, typically below 60 frames per second.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Press <\/span>Windows Key <\/b>+ <\/span>R<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. In the <\/span>Run<\/b> box that opens, type the following <\/span>Nvidia Control Panel<\/b> launcher path:
    \n<\/span>C:\\Program Files\\NVidia Corporation\\Control Panel Client\\nvcplui.exe<\/b><\/b><\/li>\n
  3. Click <\/span>OK<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Expand the following nodes from the left-hand side panel:
    \n<\/span>3D Settings | Manage 3D Settings<\/b><\/b><\/li>\n
  5. Under the <\/span>I would like to use the following 3D settings<\/b>, click the <\/span>Global Settings <\/b>tab.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Scroll down the <\/span>Settings<\/b> list box.<\/span><\/li>\n
  7. Set <\/span>Vertical Sync<\/b>: <\/span>Adaptive<\/b><\/li>\n
  8. Click <\/span>Apply<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  9. Exit the NVIDIA Control Panel<\/b> window, restart your computer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Disable Conflicting HID Devices<\/b><\/h2>\n

    An <\/span>HID <\/b>(<\/span>Human Interface Device<\/b>)<\/span> Device<\/b>, <\/span><\/i>exchanges inputs, and outputs in an electronic form to facilitate human interaction with the computer system. This may include but not limited to the keyboard, mouse and joystick.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Apart from the above-mentioned devices, there may be additional devices installed and listed in the <\/span>Device Manager<\/b>. Figure out any suspicious <\/span>HID<\/b> devices and uninstall them using <\/span>Device Manager<\/b>, a troubleshooting tool that demonstrates information about all the devices installed on your computer.<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Type <\/span>Device Manager<\/b> in the <\/span>Search <\/b>Box on the <\/span>Taskbar<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Open <\/span>Device Manager <\/b>from the <\/span>Search Results<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Expand the top node from the left-hand side panel.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Expand the subnode named <\/span>Human Interface Device<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
    5. One by one uninstall suspicious <\/span>HID<\/b> devices. (Right-click the device and select <\/span>Uninstall<\/b>)<\/span><\/li>\n
    6. After completion, exit out of the screen and reboot your machine to finish troubleshooting.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Kill Resource-consuming Tasks<\/b><\/h2>\n

      Geeks have noticed that unusual activity of some background processes and services is the main reason behind <\/span>TorchLight 2<\/b> freezes on PC. These processes and services with unusual activity consume the highest amount of <\/span>CPU<\/b>, technically defined as <\/span>High CPU Utilization<\/b>. <\/span>TorchLight 2<\/b> runs sluggish due to insufficient resource problem caused by services with up to 60% – 70% <\/span>CPU<\/b> utilization. Use <\/span>Resource Monitor<\/b> to track reliability data in real-time and take appropriate measures.\u00a0<\/span>It will help increase game speed instantly. <\/span><\/p>\n

      1. Type <\/span>Resource Monitor <\/b>in the <\/span>Search <\/b>box on the <\/span>Taskbar<\/b> and open it from the <\/span>Search Results<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
      2. Resource Monitor<\/b> divides your screen primarily into two parts – textual information and graphical charts will be opened on your screen.<\/span><\/li>\n
      3. Click the <\/span>CPU <\/b>tab to list out all processes and services that we need to evaluate.<\/span><\/li>\n
      4. Expand the <\/span>Processes <\/b>category.<\/span><\/li>\n
      5. Note down the total percent of <\/span>CPU Usage<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
      6. Rearrange all processes by their individual CPU consumption by clicking the <\/span>CPU <\/b>or <\/span>Average CPU <\/b>column head, whichever way you want.<\/span><\/li>\n
      7. The processes will be rearranged in a descending manner based on their individual <\/span>CPU<\/b> consumption. Accordingly, kill the unneeded ones by right-clicking and selecting <\/span>End process<\/b> option.<\/span><\/li>\n
      8. Now expand the <\/span>Services <\/b>category and rearrange services with the same criteria as above.<\/span><\/li>\n
      9. To terminate a service, right-click it and select <\/span>Stop service<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Change Local Game Settings<\/b><\/h2>\n

        Each time you run <\/span>TorchLight 2<\/b>, it increments the particles value and results into frequent lags. Revert the original particles limit and prevent further modifications by marking the configuration file as <\/span>Read-Only<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

        1. Double-click <\/span>This PC<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Open the following directory:
          \n<\/span>C:\\Users\\<\/b><UserName><\/b>\\Documents\\My Games\\Runic Games\\Torchlight 2<\/b><\/b><\/li>\n
        3. Double-click the file named <\/span>Local_Settings.txt<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Click <\/span>Edit<\/b> | <\/span>Find<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. In the <\/span>Find what <\/b>textbox, type <\/span>PARTICLES<\/b> and then click <\/span>Find Next<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        6. The search query will be highlighted.<\/span><\/li>\n
        7. Set the new value as <\/span>500<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        8. The line should now look like:
          \n<\/span>MAX_PARTICLES=500<\/b><\/b><\/li>\n
        9. Click <\/span>File <\/b>| <\/span>Save<\/b>.<\/span><\/li>\n
        10. Exit the file.<\/li>\n
        11. Right-click <\/span>Local_Settings.txt <\/b>file, choose <\/span>Properties <\/b>from the context menu.<\/span><\/li>\n
