HitFilm Express Running Slow on Computer

HitFilm Express is a powerful video editing suite for creating dynamic action movies from the comfort of your home.

It comes with a high-performance editing powerhouse that brings life to 2D, 3D and custom animations; and completely transforms homemade videos into cinema-like quality.

In short, it is a great movie making software that anyone can use. But as all great things have drawbacks, one drawback of this great software is that it requires high-end computing power to make it work. This isn’t unusual because all other computing software programs of this caliber have this requisite.

After some research, we’ve been able to come up with a turnaround to this problem. Read below to know how you can avoid the HitFilm Express running slow issue by doing a little tinkering with your system.

Recommended: Perform Extensive System Cleaning

This is a huge deterrent in ensuring software programs of all hues and even your computer performs at its very best for a long time. Get a decent system cleaner software program and it will take care of the rest.

Use ST Cleaner to perform System Cleaning

Problem 1: Lags During Video Performance

Most of the times HitFilm Express will lag when a new video format is used for rendering. This happens because every video codec has its own advantages and disadvantages. If a person runs a video codec with the format AVC / H-264 in 1920 x 1080 25 fps, there is a likelihood it will take more time to load. This happens because the video codec is heavy. If this occurs, another video editing software or video conversion software should be used for converting the video.

Problem 2: HitFilm Express Becomes Slow While Exporting Video

This problem usually occurs when the GPU has worn out and is slow.

On HitFilm Express forum, a HitFilm representative said that the most important component of a PC is the most important component of the GPU. Therefore, a better approach for people who are using a slow GPU is to switch the resolution to Half or Quarter. Also, the user can also try proxying composite shots to reduce the performance.

Problem 3: Running Slow When Users Tries to Edit / Out of Sync Audio

The solution to this problem has been provided by HitFilm Express on this YouTube video. It says the Shadowplay videos should be transcoded before being added to the HitFilm Express software.

Even small frame differences can lead to out of sync videos and audio settings.

Therefore, users need to watch this video to make sure they get it right.

Problem 4: H.264 Footage Runs Slow While Editing and Rendering

Most users capture movies from their cameras. When they try to edit this video in  HitFilm, it gives an error. This problem can be sorted by transcoding the footage into an edit-friendly codec before exporting it to HitFilm software.

The main reason H.264 codec gets stuck while the video is loading because it is a delivery codec – used for playback and not for editing.

Problem 5: HitFilm Express becomes Unresponsive Very Often

This supposedly is a problem with Graphics Drivers. Most Graphic cards by Intel computers are only compatible with HitFilm Express if they have a Nvidia driver installed. HitFilm Express is configured with Nvidia and not the Intel graphic chips.

If the system doesn’t work even after you’ve installed the Nvidia driver, you will need to check the internal system processes through the Process Monitor.

And, if you still think HitFilm is running slow and want to fix this issue, simply change the speed from Half to Quarter. The option is available at the lower left of the Preview pane. It will turn off lights, shadows, motion blur and depth of field.
HitFilm Express is a great software to edit and make ready-to-publish videos. In this tutorial, we have tried to answer all the irritating problems that you may be facing.
