RAW NEF Duplicates Fix, Don’t Let the Photos Take too Much Space

NEF stands for Nikon Electronic Format. The NEF images are stored in a format in which image quality doesn’t suffer. The lossless and uncompressed format saves images without containing any hue, tone, sharpening and white-balance issues.

With the right codecs, you will be able to view RAW NEF files. You must have the official toolkits by Nikon, ViewNX2 and Free Capture NX-D to view the RAW images. Alternatively, downloading Microsoft Camera Codec Pack from the techno-giant will also benefit you.

A freeware app called Google SnapSeed can be downloaded from the search-engine giant. This app is cost-free for all Android users.

How to Find Duplicate RAW NEF Images?

Using PictureEcho’s Exact Match scan, you can add RAW photos to find duplicates among them. The scan can take a little longer because the RAW images are big in size. The PictureEcho allows you to select duplicates based on the following criteria:

1) Select by Image Location

If you think files in a particular folder should be kept or removed, choose this mode.

2) Select Image By Size

After a duplicate scan is finished and you are seeing the list of images identified as ‘duplicates’, you have the control to select images by their sizes and send them to the Black Hole zone of your computer.

3) Select Image By Screen Resolution

Resolution based images can also be selected by the user. Though images may vary in terms of high resolution and low resolution, all depends on the quality of the image which you need to keep.

4) Select Image By Version

Here, you can select the newest and the oldest image versions.

These are the steps to find and remove duplicate RAW NEF image files:

  1. Open PictureEcho software on your computer.
  2. Use the Exact Match option before starting an inspection of your photos.
  3. Add the folders which contain RAW NEFs.
  4. After clicking on the Start Search button, wait for a few seconds
  5. Once the scanning of duplicates is finished, you can see all the image thumbnails on your screen.
  6. Click on the select Duplicates option and choose the selection criteria of your preference.
  7. Lastly, click Select Action, and it’s up to you how you manage your duplicates.
