Fixing the Duplicate Raw Photos Issue

If you are working with photographs on a day to day basis, it is inevitable that no matter how cautious you are, you will still end up having some duplicate files in your system. PictureEcho is quite a helpful tool that allows users to look up and remove duplicates of not just ordinary photos but also distinct raw filetypes.

Why Use PictureEcho?

The answer is simple. Using PictureEcho, users can get:

  • More Free Disk Space

Once you successfully delete unnecessary duplicate files from your system, you will have more disk space, which can now be used elsewhere. This means that you no longer have to invest in expensive cloud storages or hard drives.

  • Higher Productivity

Removing duplicates will clean up your system and boost its productivity. You will notice tasks getting done in a shorter amount of time now.

  • Well Organized Data

Using PictureEcho allows you to keep essential data and instantly get rid of duplicate photos. Upon doing so, all your data becomes more organized and you will no longer have to spend hours trying to look for the right file. After all, time is priceless!

How Does PictureEcho work?

PictureEcho is quite a user-friendly tool and expects no technical knowledge from the user. Once you have installed and opened the program, here are a few simple steps to follow:

1. Adding Files/ Folder

Via the Add Path button, browse through your computer and select the files or folders that you wish to scan. If you want to exclude any folder/ path, you can do so by going to Similarity Settings and then Excluded Folders.

2. Comparison Criteria Settings

To find duplicates of raw files, you will have to select the Exact Match option instead of Similar Match.

Next, go to the Similarity Settings, followed by Included Extensions. Here, you can write down all the file extensions that you wish to look duplicates of. Make sure you start all file extensions with a dot and separate them with a semicolon.

3. Performing an Action

Once your scan is over, PictureEcho will show you a brief report regarding the situation of duplicate files in your system. Now, you have to decide which versions of the duplicate files you wish to retain and which of them you wish to remove/ relocate.

You can do this manually but of course, it will take you a lot of time. It’s really not worth it, especially when PictureEcho has an automated feature, which can perform the task within seconds. Go to the Select Duplicates option and decide from many options like:

  • Date of Creation (Newest or Oldest)
  • File Size (Largest or Smallest)
  • Resolution (Minimum or Maximum)
  • File Location

Finally, use the Select Action option to decide whether you want to automatically delete all the selected duplicate files or you want to review them by moving to another location first.

Additional Features

Apart from detecting exact matches for raw file types, PictureEcho works perfectly with common photo types such as .jpeg, .jpg, and .png as well. In fact, not just exact matches, you can also look for similar matches when working with these file types. This can be done on the basis of various factors such as the time-span in which photographs were taken.

Compatibility

The latest version of PictureEcho (3.0) works with Microsoft Windows 10/ 8/ 7 (32-bit and 64-bit).
