Clear Gmail Inbox (Junk, Spam, Drafts, Deleted, etc)

Having a flooded email inbox is always risky. After all, you don’t want to miss out on priority emails because of a huge pile of unwanted emails lying around your inbox, right? If you want to organize your inbox instantly, this article is a great fit for you.

1. Delete all Visible Emails 

  • Deleting from Inbox
  • Head to your Gmail account.
  • Select all emails using the checkbox towards the upper left corner.
  • Hit the trash bin icon that says Delete.
  • Delete from Spam 
  • Head to your Gmail account.
  • Click on More from the left-hand side panel.
  • Head to the Spam folder.
  • Select all emails using the checkbox towards the upper left corner.
  • Hit the trash bin icon that says Delete.

  • Delete from Drafts
  • Head to your Gmail account.
  • Click on Drafts from the left-hand side panel.
  • Select all emails using the checkbox towards the upper left corner.
  • Click on Discard Drafts.

  • Empty the Bin

It’s important to also delete all emails from your trash bin. Otherwise, they’ll still keep occupying your storage space. 

  • Head to your Gmail account.
  • Click on More from the left-hand side panel.
  • Head to the Trash section.
  • Select all emails using the checkbox towards the upper left corner.
  • Click on Delete forever.

2. Deleting Emails with Large Attachments

Gmails’ search/filtering option allows users to find emails as per their requirements. To find and delete all emails with large attachments: 

  • Head to your Gmail account.
  • Type “larger_than:5MB” in the search bar and hit Enter.
  • Once you have the search results in front of you, select all emails using the checkbox towards the upper left corner.
  • Hit the trash bin icon that says Delete.
  • Deleting Emails That Are Older Than Two Months

Gmail also allows users to select a time frame and delete all emails that were received or sent prior to that. For example, if you want to delete all emails that are older than two months:

  • Head to your Gmail account.
  • Type “older_than:60d”  in the search bar and hit Enter.
  • Once you have the search results in front of you, select all emails using the checkbox towards the upper left corner.
  • Hit the trash bin icon that says Delete.
  • Delete Your Entire Google Account

This method is a bit risky. It will wipe out your entire Google account data, including Google Drive files, Gmail emails,  Google Calendar events, Google Photos, Google Contacts, everything! Any active subscriptions such as Google Music will also be automatically canceled. To do so:

Download your Data

  • Sign in to your Google account and head to Google Takeout.
  • Go to Data & Personalization.
  • Select the Download your data option.
  • Select all the data you wish to include in your backup i.e, Google Archive.
  • Go to the Next Step. 
  • To get your archive in a downloadable format via email, click on Send download link via email.
  • Once you get an email with a link, click on it to download your backup files.

Delete Your Google Account

  • Head to Google MyAccount.
  • Go to Data & Personalization.
  • Under the Download, Delete or Make a Plan section, you’ll find the Delete a service or your account option. Click on this one.
  • Select Delete your Account and confirm your action.

Caution: You might want to think about this several times before actually deciding to delete your entire account!
