Update the Browser

Web.Skype is a web-based API, which may demand the latest version of the browser to deliver the right results and function normally. An outdated browser version may create conflicts with the latest skype API ultimately resulting in a crash. To update your browser, follow the steps given below.

Google Chrome

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click on the Menu icon on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. Point to the Help option and then select About Google Chrome.
  4. Now Chrome will automatically check for updates and provide you with an option to update it, if an update is available.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Click on the Menu button on the upper-right corner of the screen.
  3. From the menu that appears, click Open Help Menu (a question mark button) at the bottom.
  4. Select About Firefox.
  5. Firefox will automatically check for updates and start downloading it if it’s available.

Safari

  1. Open Menu and choose the App Store option.
  2. Click the Updates button on the toolbar.
  3. Find Safari and then click Update.

This way you can update your browser. If your browser is different from the above-mentioned ones, just do a Google search on how to update it.

Check for Conflicting Modules

Plugins or extensions installed in your browser may create conflicts with the web applications. So checking them may fix the web.skype crash issue. To check the conflicting modules in Chrome, follow the steps given below.

  1. Type “chrome://conflicts” in the address bar and then press Enter.
  2. If any conflicts are found, conflicting modules and the application which caused the conflict both will be shown prominently.
  3. Uninstall the conflicting application from the Control Panel or the conflicting extension(s) from the browser.
  4. Repeat step # 1. If you get the No conflicts detected message, it means no more conflicts are there.

Beware of the “http://:” message

Many Skype desktop application and web.skype users have complained that ONLY sending the characters http://: in chat causes skype to either completely crash or be unresponsive. Even though skype claims it has fixed this problem, some users are still experiencing it. So try to avoid sending only the http://: characters in your Chat sessions without any URL.

Go For the Skype Desktop Application

If any of the above methods did not help you fix the web.skype crashing issue, go for the desktop application of the skype. You can download the skype desktop application from their website, or you could also install it on your Smartphones, Tablets or TV. It is more stable than the web version of skype as it is directly accessed from your device instead of the internet.
